École Ritz Escoffier: Pastry Masterclass
Place Vendôme, 1st Arrondissement
★★★★€220 per personSplurge
Would we book again? Yes.
The Ritz's cooking school occupies the same kitchens where Auguste Escoffier — the father of modern French cuisine — once worked. That alone would make it worth visiting. But the pastry masterclass is genuinely excellent: three hours of croissant-making, guided by a chef who trained at the hotel, in a kitchen so beautiful you'll forget you're covered in flour.
You eat everything you make. And what you make is surprisingly good.
Field Notes
The Class
The croissant masterclass is the best value. The macaron class is more photogenic. Both are excellent.
The Timing
Morning sessions are better — the light in the kitchen is extraordinary and you leave with your creations in time for a picnic lunch in the Tuileries.
The Souvenir
You get a Ritz apron and your own box of pastries. The apron is surprisingly nice — heavy cotton, proper embroidery.
The Clipper Detail
“After the class, ask if you can peek into the main hotel kitchen. The chefs are usually happy to show guests around if service hasn't started. It's twice the size of the school kitchen.”
